As some of you may know, today is Big Bang's 5th Anniversary. That's right. Big Bang debuted on this day (8/19) 5 years ago at a YG Family concert. Now you maybe not think that it's a big deal that it's their 5 year anniversary but it kind of is. Because in South Korea most groups, mainly boy groups don't survive to see their 5th year or they disband right after wards. A lot of the fans call it the 5yr curse. Their are only a few groups that are still together more than 5 years. Once again Big Bang breaks the mold. Even though their contract with YG would have been up today they signed a 4 or 5 yr (don't remember which) extension to their contract last year.
Now I wanted to do something special for this day and I couldn't really think of anything. I mean how could I top the countdown I did for their comeback earlier this year? The thought of posting all their MV came to mind then I realized just how many MV they have. 31! Then I thought about posting their solo MVs but unfortunately Daesung doesn't have any. :/ So I finally decided on a countdown of the(my) top 10 MVs.
From 31 I went down to 16 from 16 I went down to 12. Picking number 10 was the hardest for some reason.
(My) Top 10 Big Bang MVs
Now I need to do an honorable mention for 12 and 11 because I really like this MVs but unfortunately they didn't make the list.
#12 Last Farewell
#11 Goodbye Baby
#10 Dirty Cash
Let's go back to 2006. It's really funny seeing this MV because of how young they look. Especially Seungri. Look at him. The cutey young panda. I forget he was like 15 when they debut. But anyways, I find this video pretty funny. I mean come on GD in the beginning with the fake 'stach, running around with the megaphone, Seungri and Daesung fighting and Taeyang dressed as a girl. Okay, that's a bit scary. Don't ever do that again TY. I don't really think there's a storyline in this and if there is I have no idea what it is. This is one of the few MV of theirs that actually put a smile on my face.
#9 Tonight
Seriously, how amazing is the scenery in this? Vegas is gorgeous. Like it wasn't before but Big Bang makes it better. This is the first MV where Daesung is the lead. XD Normally it's GD and on occassions TOP or Taeyang but never Daesung or Seungri. Now it's Daesung's time to shine. And
that he does. I don't think he's ever looked hotter than he does here. The storyline has twist in the end. Just when you think Daesung has the girl TOP takes her from behind. You sneaky bastard.
#8 Sunset Glow
Come on how can you not love this MV? This video is just plain fun with a capital F-U-N. The boys are riding around Seoul and the surrounding area on a school bus (PARTY BUS!) crashing different places and surprising the people there. Imagine you're at school and all of a sudden these 5 guys run in dancing and singing. How awesome would that be? Then they take you on the party bus to the beach. This is another video that puts a smile on my face. Let's Go West.
#7 Lollipop
Lolli lolli oh lollipop. Oh the video and song that started it all for me. Who'd knew that a video and song for a phone would become this big of a hit? Not only that but it was a hit even without promotions. And this was the first time we got to see 2NE1. Really the colors and the fashion make this video good. IT'S SO COLORFUL! 8D It like hypnotizes you. Puts you in a trance of sorts.
#6 Gara Gara Go
From one colorful video to another. This one may not be as colorful with Lollipop but it still managed to rank higher. It's the lights. All the flashing lights. 8D All this video really is is them dancing on the same stage but with different outfits and some solo shots. This was the time where Seungri had that trench coat thing going on and GD with his greasy hair. (It looked greasy when its down. What can I say, I didn't like it.)
#5 Beautiful Hangover
There is something about this MV that I really love. I don't really know what it is exactly but either way I love this MV. As for the storyline I can tell what each of them are exact for TOP's. All he does is just rap in this room, sitting on a chair or standing up. And that's probably because he had injured his next during the filming of this so that's why there's so little of him. And it still bugs me that I can't figure out where I've seen the girl from. She looks so familiar to me. I don't know if there's really such a thing as a beautiful hangover. Hangovers suck most of the time.
#4 Lies
Enter piano here. The song that became their breakthrough hit. This video is different from the ones that they had done before this. This one has a storyline and not only that but a sad one. The girl is full of guilt the entire video because GD takes the blame of her crime and now he's paying for what she did. Did anyone else laugh when TOP came into the scene in a shopping cart? XD I literally couldn't stop laughing the first time I saw that. I think that scene in the 2nd version is funnier. It took me a while to realize that the camera men behind GD were Seungri and Daesung. And that Taeyang had no hair. And here's a random fact. The girl's voice in the beginning of the song is actually fellow label mate Gummy.
#3 Haru Haru
Let's continue the theme of the sad MVs. The video reunites TOP with his I Am Sam cast mate Park Min Young (who recently played Nana on City Hunter). This video is actually sadder than Lies. GD sees his girlfriend or ex with TOP and gets jealous. The rest of the members get stuck in the middle.
But it turns out that Min Young and TOP had a reason for doing what they are were doing. I know of a few people who actually teared up at the end. You didn't want it to happen but you had a feeling it
would.
#2 Tell Me Goodbye
I believe this MV gave me goosebumps when I first saw it. This song is actually theme for the Japanese dub of IRIS. Which is kind of cool because they did an insert song for the regular Korean drama but this time it's the theme. I just think that this whole MV is just beautiful. I love the concept of this video. This is another "tragic" video. I really don't know what else to say about this MV. It's just so good that it speaks for itself.
#1 Love Song
I think by just watching his MV you'll know why it's #1. There are no words for how beautifully amazing this MV really is. I love how it seems that they shot the MV all in one scene. I wouldn't be surprised if they did because I watched the behind the scenes for this and they were running to get to their next spot whenever the camera panned away from them. And I love how none of them acknowledge each other throughout the entire video. They're in their own little world mourning the death of their love. I think not having this video in color was brilliant. Because I don't think the video would really be anything special with color. So I think not having color added to the effects. This video is just pure perfection in my opinion.
